Fripon/Vigie-Ciel team, helped by meteorite and astronomy enthusiasts started meteorites recovery today (February 15) in Normandy, between Dieppe and Doudeville, hoping to recover some pieces of meteorites that could be linked to 2023 CX1 asteroid atmopsheric entry, on February 13, 02h 59min UT. The monitored meteorite falling zone was based on trajectory and strewn field calculated by Peter Jenniskens (SETI Institute, arrived on site in the afternoon), Denis Vida (UWO, Canada) and Hadrien Devillepoix (DFN – Australia) from amateur videos and photographies, combined with FRIPON recordings.

A few hours after they started looking for pieces of 2023 CX1, at the end of the afternoon, a piece of black rock was found in a field (Figures 1, 2 and 3) ! After analysis, it was confirmed to be a meteorite, the first French one since Draveil fall in 2011, and, let’s hope, the first of a series of 2023 CX1 fragments!
