About
Using IMO Data
The International Meteor Organization (IMO) is a non-profit association. One of its founding objectives is to centralize and distribute scientific data on meteors and related phenomena, to guarantee both their conservation and their accessibility to amateurs and professionals. In that spirit, we are happy for our data to be used widely, by observers, clubs, teachers, journalists, researchers and developers, including in commercial apps and services.
What you can use freely
You may use, reproduce and share data published by the IMO, such as the Meteor Shower Calendar, the Working List of Visual Meteor Showers and observation results, for any purpose, without asking us first, as long as you follow the conditions below. This does not apply to fireball report data (see Fireball reports below).
Conditions
Credit the IMO. Wherever IMO data appears, include:
Source: International Meteor Organization (IMO) – www.imo.net
Online, link directly to https://www.imo.net. Where relevant, mention the edition or year (for example, “IMO Meteor Shower Calendar 2027”).
No endorsement implied. Using IMO data does not mean the IMO endorses, sponsors or is affiliated with you, your product or your service. Please don’t suggest otherwise, and don’t use the IMO logo.
Keep the data honest. Don’t present modified data as coming from the IMO. If you calculate your own values from our data, make it clear which values are yours.
Keep it reasonably up to date. Our predictions are revised each year, and corrections are sometimes published. Please use the current edition where possible.
When to ask us first
Please contact us before:
- using the IMO name or logo other than in the credit line above;
- reproducing the Meteor Shower Calendar or other IMO publications in full or in substantial part (for example, copying the whole Calendar onto another website, into a magazine or into a document). Short extracts and data used in your own presentation are fine;
- republishing an IMO dataset in full as a standalone file, database or API;
- reusing photos, articles or other contributions published on imo.net. These usually belong to their authors, not the IMO.
Fireball reports
Fireball report data shown on or collected through imo.net is not owned by the IMO. It is collected in partnership with allsky.org and the American Meteor Society. It is therefore not covered by this policy, and the IMO cannot grant permission to use it. For any reuse, please contact the American Meteor Society through its contact form.
You can reach the IMO through our contact form.
Disclaimer
IMO data is provided as is. Predictions such as peak dates and ZHR are estimates, and actual meteor activity can differ.
