We are pleased to announce the release of the Meteor Shower Calendar for 2026, an essential resource for anyone interested in observing or studying meteor activity over the coming year. As in previous years, the calendar has been meticulously prepared by Dr. Jürgen Rendtel, whose expertise continues to guide both amateur and professional observers worldwide.

The IMO Meteor Calendar is not just a list of peak dates—it is a scientifically grounded tool that highlights the most promising meteor showers of the year, provides accurate activity periods, and gives practical observing advice. It includes detailed information on each major and minor meteor stream, from radiant positions and entry velocities to zenithal hourly rates (ZHRs), and moonlight conditions—an often underestimated factor for successful visual observation.

Among the highlights for 2026 are expected strong performances from the Lyrids, Eta Aquariids, Perseids, Geminids, and Ursids. However, the Quadrantids, which typically kick off the meteor year with a sharp and intense peak, may be partially compromised by a bright Moon. Still, with strategic planning and a bit of luck with the weather, observers can look forward to several memorable nights under the stars!

The calendar is based on observational data from the IMO Video Meteor Database and incorporates model predictions for possible outbursts or enhancements. It remains one of the most widely respected tools in the global meteor community.
