The 1999 IMC happened during the famous Leonid return years which got lots of attention. The 1999 IMC was an expensive edition, but participants remember the meals to be the best ever at an IMC. These excellent dinners and an excursion to Farfa Abbey encouraged the social contacts. The alarm setting at 1 a.m. in the hotel of the IMC imposed a strict time limit for talks and guaranteed a minimum of sleep to all participants. The IMC location 50 km outside of Rome in the middle of remnants of the Roman Empire together with the Italian climate and cuisine characterized this IMC. Three special souvenirs: the enthusiasm provoked by the third Romanian Astroshow on Saturday evening, the moment when the first South-American participant at the IMC cried of emotion by seeing the northern sky constellations during a short visit at the ARA castle-observatory, and a small festivity with Japanese cakes (the IMC coinciding with the Moon Festival in Japan).
